Staying up to date on vaccines is the most effective way to prevent serious illness resulting from these viruses. When you are vaccinated, you also help protect everyone around you.

As of April 11/2024, only 15.7% of Chicago residents have received an updated COVID-19 vaccine. Talk to your provider today about getting vaccinated!

COVID 19 FAQ

COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) is a disease caused by a virus named SARS-CoV-2. It is very contagious and can spread quickly. It most commonly causes symptoms that can feel like a cold or flu, and can affect more parts of your body than your lungs and respiratory system. Most people with COVID-19 have mild symptoms, but some people can get seriously ill.

Masking is encouraged in our clinics to help limit the spread of respiratory diseases. Surfaces in the waiting areas and exam rooms are routinely cleaned and disinfected. We also offer telehealth appointments whenever appropriate to give you flexibility in how you access care.

We may require that patients wear a mask in certain areas of our clinics, or if they are experiencing symptoms of respiratory illness.

On March 1, 2024 the Center for Disease Control released updated guidance for navigating respiratory viruses including COVID-19. The new guidance takes a unified approach to addressing risks from a range of common respiratory viral illnesses, such as COVID-19, flu, and RSV. CDC is making updates to the recommendations now because the U.S. is seeing far fewer hospitalizations and deaths associated with COVID-19 and because we have more tools than ever to combat flu, COVID, and RSV.

While every respiratory virus does not act the same, adopting a unified approach to limiting disease spread makes recommendations easier to follow and does not rely on individuals to test for illness. For the most up to date information, visit the CDC website.

Stay up to date on vaccines, including COVID-19 and influenza. Vaccination is the best way to minimize your risk. Everyone age six months and older is recommended to get the updated COVID-19 vaccine (available in Fall 2023). Adults age 65+ can get a second dose of the vaccine. Call 773-751-7800 to schedule your appointment today to ensure that you are up to date on your vaccines!

Practice good hygiene. Cover coughs and sneezes, wash or sanitize hands often, and clean frequently used surfaces.

· Stay home and away from others when sick. When you are sick with a respiratory virus, stay home and away from others.

o New guidance recommends returning to normal activities once symptoms have been improving for 24 hours and you have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).

o CDC recommends enhanced precautions for five days after resuming normal activities. These enhanced precautions are important to protect those who are most at risk for

serious illness, like people who are 65+ and those with weakened immune systems. These precautions include:

§ Wearing a well-fitting mask

§ Keeping distance from others

§ Getting tested for respiratory viruses

· Talk to your primary care provider about treatment options.

o It is important to test and treat early.

The hospital emergency room should only be used by people who are concerned about life-threatening issues like difficulty breathing or chest pain. If you think you are experiencing life-threatening symptoms, do not wait to seek care. Go directly to the hospital or call 911.

If you are not sure if your symptoms are an emergency, call your medical provider for advice. Tapestry 360 Health patients can call 773-751-7800 for advice 24 hours a day.

Speak directly to your healthcare provider for medical advice specific to your situation.

Some people, including those with minor or no symptoms, will develop Long COVID. People call Long COVID by many names, including Post-COVID Conditions, long-haul COVID, post-acute COVID-19, long-term effects of COVID, and chronic COVID. Long COVID is defined as the new, returning, or ongoing health problems people can experience four or more weeks after initial infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Long COVID can include a wide range of ongoing health problems and these issues can last weeks, months, or years. If you think you may have Long COVID, the CDC has created a checklist to help you get the most out of an appointment to discuss your concerns with your medical provider.
